Global cases inch towards 700,000

The total number of global COVID-19 cases inched towards the 700,000 mark last night as the Coronavirus Dashboard of the Johns Hopkins University, USA indicated 692,000 cases, with the US leading at 125,000 cases.  Italy is next with 92,000 cases. Sri Lanka has recorded 117 cases with one death. There were 32,000 deaths around the world, with Italy accounting for one-third of them. Nearly 146,000 people across the globe had fully recovered from the viral disease, with the biggest number of recoveries (75,000) in China, where several previously locked down cities are now gradually reopening for travel. Several famous people have contracted the disease including British PM Boris Johnson, Prince Charles and actor Tom Hanks. Experts say that strict social distancing measures must be practiced for one or two more months to flatten the curve of the Coronavirus spread. There is no currently no cure or vaccine for COVID-19.
