Task Force decides on pension modality

During a meeting of the Special Presidential task Force on Essential supplies held yesterday, it was decided that pensions for the month of April would be made on the 2nd and 3rd of the month.

“Pensions will be paid on the 2nd and 3rd of April. If any pensioners are unable to receive their pensions on these days, payments will be completed on April 6,” an official communiqué signed by Professor Charitha Herath, head of Media Coordination said.

The Task Force has decided on two ways of obtaining the pensions, either through post offices or through the respective bank accounts.Pensioners who receive their pensions through the Post Office will have their

pensions delivered by the Department of Posts to their residences or the GN Divisions.

Those who receive their pensions through the respective bank accounts will have their bank accounts credited on April 2nd and 3rd. A process has been formulated to overcome the travel difficulties pensioners who desire to withdraw money from their bank accounts would face due to the curfew.

Pensioners who wish to withdraw money should give prior notice through the Grama

Niladharis of their areas of residence. The government intends to provide transportation for these persons to the nearest bank and back to their villages of residence on April 2nd and 3rd. The Tri-Forces and the Police have been instructed to provide the necessary transport facilities for this purpose while the assistance of the respective Grama Niladharis will also be obtained.

Meanwhile State and private banks have also agreed to have at least one branch open on these days in the respective towns.

The possibility of sending mobile ATM trucks to doorsteps of residents has also been discussed.
