Access to essential drugs ensured

The Government has decided to formulate a mechanism immediately to provide essential drugs to the public during the period curfew.

The decision was reached at the newly formed Presidential Task Force meeting headed by former Minister Basil Rajapaksa on Supplying Essential Goods. The meeting was held at the Temple Trees with the high ranking officials of the health sector.During the meeting, the inconveniences faced by the patients suffering from non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure etc in purchasing drugs while the curfew was ongoing was highlighted.

It was revealed that ample amounts of locally manufactured drugs for such diseases are available in the stores for several more months, during the meeting held under the instructions of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. The attention also was drawn to take measures to continue the local drugs manufacturing process without any interruption.

Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa also took measures to solve the issues of importers in importing drugs from India discussing with the Indian authorities over the phone, during the meeting.
