CGTTI and SLGTI prepare for long lockdown

Following the outbreak of the Covid-19virus, acting on instructions from Foreign Relations and Skills development, Employment and Labour Relations Minister Minister Dinesh Gunawardena both the Ceylon German Technical Training Institute and the Sri Lanka German Training Institute in Kilinochchi, have closed down temporarily. CGTTI Chair Vinod Moonesinghe directed both institutions to go on holiday for two weeks, with the period being extended later, due to the government-imposed curfew.

Anticipating a long period of lockdown, both institutions took steps to ensure that students returned to their homes and that the staff received their salaries up to date.

On the initiative of CGTTI acting Principal Upali Ranasinghe and Acting Deputy Principle Atula Goonatilleke, sinks were installed at the entrance to the CGTTI’s Ratmalana campus, for students and staff to wash their faces and hands once classes recommence.

Acting Deputy Principle CGTTI Atula Goonatilleke and Acting Deputy Principle SLGTI Udana Eranda have made arrangements for staff to work from home in preparing assignments and homework, in preparation for accelerated teaching programmes once operations recommence.

Meanwhile, the high risk German staff including SLGTI Principal Erwin Schulz have been evacuated to Germany until the level of risk abates.

Students are being notified through the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation’s television channels.
