Stay at home to prevent COVID-19 spread

At the moment Sri Lanka is fighting to prevent COVID-19 spreading into the community. The health authorities, security forces and the Government are working hard to prevent COVID-19 spreading into the community, Epidemiology Unit sources said.

The public can call and inform 119, 0718591864, 0112444480, 0112444481 about any individual who returned from aboard and hiding inside his/her home or in a relative’s home without getting registered for home quarantine process.

What the people can do to support the process

  • Stay at home
  • Wear masks when going out
  • Cover your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately. Wash handkerchiefs with soap and water before re-use.
  • Keeping a distance of one metre or more with another person
  • Wash hands with soap once in every 30 minutes if possible.
  •  Wash for at least 20 seconds or more.
  • Keep things bought from shops / received from others outside home for few hours before taking into thehome.

What people should not do

  • Do not go out of home
  • Do not touch the mask while wearing it
  • Do not go close to a person more than one metre
  • Do not touch face (mouth, nose, eyes etc)
  • Do not spit here and there

According to the WHO

  • Before putting on a mask, clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
  • Cover mouth and nose with mask and make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask.
  • Avoid touching the mask while using it; if you do, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
  • Replace the mask with a new one as soon as it is damp and do not re-use single-use masks.
  • To remove the mask: remove it from behind (do not touch the front of mask); discard immediately in a closed bin; clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
