Spike in domestic violence cases

The Chief Nurse of the National Hospital Pushpa Ramyani de Zoysa has noted that, of the patients who have been admitted to the accident ward during the curfew, a considerable number have been admitted due to domestic violence.

According to the Chief Nurse, usually around 250 patients get admitted to the accident ward of the NHS daily. However, during the curfew only 66 patients have been admitted.

Of the patients who were admitted, there are number of cases where females have undergone violence instigated by their husbands.

The Chief Nurse of the NHS De Soysa noted this in her official Facebook page.She had also noted, “It is unfortunate that these families cannot use this valuable free time to stay happy with their loved ones. It would be a relief to us as well, in a trying time like this.”
