BARRED: ALL INBOUND PASSENGER AND CRUISE LINERS

Under the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the government announced in a special communiqué that all incoming airlines and passenger shipping lines will remain restricted until the situation in the country over COVID-19 returns to normality.

Accordingly all passenger and passenger shipping lines will be barred from entering the country's airport and ports until the situation in the country improves.

This is a measure taken by the government to ensure that the spread of COVID-19 is contained. Under no circumstances will this decision could be relaxed until the prevailing situation becomes normal, the Government further announced.

Earlier, the Government closed the Jaffna Airport to international flights and restricted the entry of inbound passengers at the Bandaranaike International Airport for an initial period of two weeks. This was broadly in line with similar steps taken by other countries.
