Cabinet approves Rs.500bn, provides a number of relief measures

The Government has decided to allocate about Rs 1 billion for the prevention of the spread of Coronavirus ‘COVID-19’ and the Cabinet approved Rs.500 million of that amount on Wednesday.

Addressing the Cabinet press briefing at the Government Information Department yesterday, he further said that Cabinet decided to charge Rs.100,000 for official vehicles given to the Prime Minister and Ministers if they use them for propaganda activities during the election period.

They will also have to pay a monthly rental of Rs.100,000 for official residencies if those are used for promotion of their party and candidature. If they use planes or choppers for their political activities during this period, they personally have to bear all the expenses. If they require additional fuel than the quantity of fuel provided for the official vehicles, such expenses too will have to be borne personally.

These charges are applicable to the former Opposition Leader and the former Speaker as well, as they are in charge of their official duties as Constitutional Council members until the date of General Election. (DM)
