Power and Energy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said the government will decide whether to reduce the prices of fuel and electricity due to the price drop in the global market in the near future.
The Minister made this remarks addressing a press conference at the Power and Energy Ministry yesterday.
The Minister also stated due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus across many countries, the prices of fuel have been falling steadily recently. “The COVID-19 outbreak has also had a massive impact on the transport industry.
The income from the public transport service has been decreased by 50 percent due to the COVID-19 outbreak. People were not using the public transport service,” Minister Amaraweera said.
“We may reduce the price of electricity instead of reducing the price of fuel. The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association has informed us that they will not reduce the bus fares,” he said.
