COVID-19 outbreak: 24 hospitals ready to face any emergency

Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi Wednesday said 24 hospitals around the country have been fully equipped and were ready to face any emergency related to any spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The hospitals are the Colombo National Hospital, Kandy General Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Colombo and hospitals at IDH, Ragama, Colombo North, Anuradhapura, Batticaloa, Ratnapura, Karapitiya, Kurunegala, Jaffna, Badulla, Hambantota, Badulla, Negombo, Gampaha, Chilaw, Polonnaruwa, Vavuniya, Monaragala, Kalutara, Matara and Marawila. The minister said that these hospitals have been provided with all the required equipment, drugs and staff to meet any emergency. She said steps have also been taken to ensure the health of staff at the above hospitals as well.

Meanwhile, Dr. Anil Jasinghe said several selected private hospitals have been granted permission to carry out COVID-19 tests under strict conditions. Dr. Jasinghe said these hospitals have been asked to follow a series of guidelines given by medical authorities when carrying out COVID–19 tests.
