No cases in open court - SC

The Supreme Court Registrar yesterday announced in a special notice that no cases will be called in open court and all cases will be rescheduled to prevent the spread of COVID-19 virus.

Supreme Court Registrar Pradeep Mahamuthugala announced that he was directed by the Chief Justice to bring this to the attention of all Counsels, Registered Attorneys and Litigants.

The Supreme Court Registrar, however, stated that the restrictions will not be applicable to the all matters relating to bail and any other matter where the judge is of the view that it should be attended to without delay.

The Registrar further stated that any party or an Attorney-at-Law who desires that any matter to be taken up on urgency, such a party or an Attorney-at-Law is required to file a motion before 10 am for the judge.

On March 16, the Supreme Court announced that all the mention matters in the Supreme Court that are to be taken up in open court from March 17 to 20 will be rescheduled and the new dates will be notified in the first week of April 2020.
