COVID-19 Treatment Centre for Hambantota

A COVID-19 Treatment Centre was opened at the old General Hospital in Hambantota on the 15th of this month. Commenting on the setting up of this unit the Medical Superintendent of the new General Hospital Dr. Suranga Obeyesekera said that in the recent past such patients were transferred to the Karpitiya Teaching Hospital, but now there is no necessity for it any more with the setting up of the new unit.

Dr.Suranga said that only two patients were allowed to visit a patient at the new General Hospital, but after the 15th of this month only one person could visit a patient. He said that the OPD has been divided into two units and the patients with respiratory diseases have been restricted to one of these units.

He requested to minimize the arrival of elderly people to the clinics and they have been advised to obtain blood and sugar level reports from the nearest hospitals in the respective areas.
