‘Major issues ahead if Coronavirus isn’t averted’

If proper preventive measures are not taken and the number of Coronavirus cases in Sri Lanka were to rise, the country would face a major issue in the future, MP Ranil Wickremesinghe said.

The parliamentarian said that the government should discuss the matter with all related stakeholders, including political representatives, to devise methods to prevent any further spreading of the disease.

Wickremesinghe, in a statement, said the country is faced with a risk of COVID-19 spreading at a faster pace with festivities just ‘round the corner.

“Some institutions are still in the dark regarding the gravity of this situation... Everyone should get together to face this challenge,” he added.

The former Premier said that a common plan should be formulated, for early implementation, in order to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. He also requested the Election Commission Chairman to look into the matter.

“I request all citizens of the country to extend their fullest cooperation to the government, and health workers, to prevent this epidemic,” the former PM added.
