COVID-19 situation: foreign nationals’ visas to be extended by 30 days

With the rising number of Coronavirus cases, it has been decided to extend the visas of foreign tourists in the country.

The visas are to be extended for an additional 30 days, with effect from March 14, until April 12.

This was mentioned in a press release issued by the Government Information Department, yesterday.

All foreign nationals are requested to visit the Immigration and Emigration Department’s Visa Division on April 8 or 9, to pay the relevant fee and get their visas endorsed.

If anyone wishes to leave the country before that, they could pay the fee at the airport, without any penalty.

The validity period of the Acknowledgement for the visa applications already submitted to the Immigration and Emigration Department, would also be extended for a period of 30 days, in the same timeline.

If any such person wishes to leave the island before that, they should email a request letter to obtain their passports to the department, along with a copy of the flight ticket.

Any necessary advice regarding the matter would also be conveyed through the same medium.
