Army officer contracts Covid-19

An Army officer who was engaged in escorting the Sri Lankans returning from overseas to quarantine centres has contracted the Covid-19 virus.

The officer detected with coronavirus is among the 28 confirmed patients receiving treatment at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (IDH) in Angoda, Military spokesman Brigadier Chandana Wickramasinghe confirmed.

Officers from the Sri Lanka Army are engaged in the setting up and handling of operations of quarantine centres across the country and this Major was attached to the directorate of overseas operations.

He is currently being treated at the IDH.
