Home quarantine periods end on March 19, 25 - PHIU

The 14-day home quarantine period on 2,572 persons will end on March 19 and the home quarantine period on another 3,460 persons will end on March 25, the Public Health Inspectors' Union (PHIU) President Upul Rohana said.

He was addressing a press conference in Colombo yesterday.

Rohana said that the quarantine period of the people who came to Sri Lanka before March 5 will end on March 19 and the people who came to Sri Lanka between March 1 and 5 will end on March 25.

PHIs did not receive certain data from the relevant path, but the information on some individuals who escaped from home quarantine was sent by the public and public servants in relevant areas. Still some individuals escaped from the tracking system.

Rohana said that the people who are home quarantined do not follow the instructions issued by the PHIs and the police. They stay at home when the PHIs visit them and leave home and visit various places and people.

Some of them had given inaccurate contact information and other wrong information when requested by the PHIs to escape from home quarantine. This poses a huge threat to the public.

The PHIs had filled 62 cases against traders who used COVID-19 to sell their expired and unhygienic food to the public while the public rushed to buy food during the past week, he added.
