COVID-19 QUARANTINE OPS

FORCES TAKE THE LEAD

Members of Tri Forces are shouldering the national task of containing the possible spread of Covid-19 in the country in collaboration with the Health authorities as directed by Commander in Chief of Armed Forces President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Hundreds of Security Forces personnel were involved in the upgrading of requirements at the Punani and Kandakadu quarantine centres where foreigners and expatriate Sri Lankan workers arriving in the country are being quarantined. These makeshift quarantine centres at Punani and Kandakadu are furnished with all facilities and are spacious enough to house at least 2,000 to 2,500 persons arriving from Covid-19-affected countries for the two-week long quarantine process.

As one more emergency measure, the Army improvised all holiday homes in Diyatalawa to be the newest quarantine centre to house the influx of Sri Lankans returning from abroad. Five more buildings situated in the area under the Security Forces headquarters in Wanni at Echchankulam, Vavuniya, will become functional as a quarantine centre.

The Sri Lanka Navy has also implemented a number of measures at all ports around the country to prevent the spread of this deadly virus. A drill was carried out by the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) wing of the Sri Lanka Navy in partnership with the Suwaseriya Ambulance Service, Fire-Fighting Unit of the Colombo Harbour, Harbour Health Service and doctors from the National Quarantine Unit. The performed drill was focused on how patients are transferred to a relevant hospital safely or rushed for treatment expeditiously and precautionary measures to be taken to stop the further spread of this viral infection.

The Sri Lanka Air Force is also implementing a number of measures to prevent the spread of this virus including disinfection of Bandaranaike International Airport.
