Ayurveda can help curb COVID-19 spread - GAMOA

The indigenous Ayurvedic medical system can be utilised to control the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus, which has become a threat to the entire world, Government Ayurvedic Medical Officers’ Association (GAMOA) President Nimal Karunasena said.

He added that the GAMOA is ready to render their service to the world to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, he urged the government authorities to obtain the service of the indigenous Ayurvedic system to tackle the spread of coronavirus.

He was addressing the media yesterday in Colombo, with regard to the COVID-19 outbreak and measures to be taken to contain the further spread of the virus.

He added that high-ranking officers in the medical sector are not ready to obtain the service of the Ayurvedic system to curb COVID-19 virus even though the local Ayurvedic treatment system has a huge potential to mitigate the pandemic.

He questioned why the high-ranking officers are reluctant to obtain the service of the Ayurvedic medical system, which is an injustice to people. According to him, the treatment system used to treat COVID 19 patients should be coupled with the Western medical system and local Ayurvedic system. “ The Indigenous Ayurvedic system can be used to mitigate COVID-19 outbreak easily,” he stressed.

He further said that indigenous Ayurvedic medical practitioners are ready to render their service to the nation, but there is no positive feedback from the government.
