Request to halt Sri Pada pilgrimage

Nuwara Eliya District Secretary Rohana Pushpakumara has made a request to the Ministry of Buddhasana and Religious Affairs to halt devotees coming to pay homage to the sacred Sri Pada due to the threat of the COVID-19 Coronavirus spread.

The annual Sri Pada Pilgrim season which began on December 11, 2019 is currently in full swing. The pilgrim season will conclude on Vesak Poya Day 2020.

Pushpakumara has made a written request to the Ministry of Buddhasana and Religious Affairs to halt devotees from visiting Sri Pada as this may act as a catalyst to the spread of the virus considering the large number of pilgrims who visit to pay their homage daily.
