Navy nabs two with Kerala cannabis

The Navy apprehended two persons with Kerala cannabis in the sea area off Koneswaram last Sunday, the Navy Media Unit said.

Sri Lanka Navy has been conducting regular operations to help the national effort to curb the drug menace in the country.

A group of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command, during a patrol in the sea area of Koneswaram spotted a suspicious dinghy.

During further search of the dinghy 11g and 109mg of Kerala cannabis, 3 liquor bottles (750ml) and 9 beer cans (330ml) were found. Along with these items 2 persons aboard and the dinghy were also taken into naval custody.

The suspects have been recognized as residents of Trincomalee and Kinniya, both aged 38. Meanwhile, the suspects together with the dinghy, cannabis and liquor were handed over to the Trincomalee Harbour Police for further investigations, a communiqué issued by the Navy Media Unit said.
