SLAITO asks for arrivals ban till March 31

Also requests for moratoria on loans, fresh working Capital

The Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) said yesterday that it has requested the Government to ban all tourist arrivals into the country till March 31.

“We have made an appeal to Chairperson of Sri Lanka Tourism to consult all stakeholders and ban all tourist arrivals into the country till March 31 until the Coronavirus epidemic is fully under control, SLAITO Chairman Mahen Kariyawasam told Daily News Finance yesterday.

“This is in order to help contain the escalation of COVID – 19 and help the Sri Lanka Health Authorities, SLAITO as a socially responsible organization, has decided to take into consideration , the increase in the number of protests around the island by locals against foreign nationals, the closure of the wild life Parks, the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, and other tourist destinations, have decided by a group consensus, that the relevant government authorities should consider restricting all foreign tourists from entering Sri Lanka from March 16, 2020 till March 31, 31, he said.

The SLAITO Chief also said that that they have appealed to the Government to provide them with a Moratorium for the existing loans , given the crisis situation in the industry and also requested for fresh working capital loans, given the dire situation that that the industry was faced with.
