The Election Commission will not accept deposits or nominations for the Parliamentary Election today (16) as the day has been proclaimed as a public holiday by the Minister of Public Administration and Internal Affairs.
However, Independent groups and the recognized political parties contesting the election can hand over their deposits and the nomination on March 17 and 18 during office hours and from 8.30 a.m. to 12.00 noon on March 19.
The EC commenced accepting nominations from March 12, 2020.
The period to accept deposits and the nominations is to end at 12.00 noon on March 19.
Meanwhile, Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said that the deadline to accept applications for postal voting has been extended till midnight on March 17 due to Monday’s holiday.
“All Returning Officers and Deputy and Assistant Election Commissioners have been instructed in this regard,” he said.
