Central bus stands, railway stations to get sanitary facilities

Every central bus stand and railway station will be equipped with sanitary facilities.

Transport Services Minister has called on officials to expand the sanitary services for commuters at central bus depots and railway stations throughout the country.

Water, disinfectants and soaps have been made freely available for commuters to wash their hands before and after boarding public transport. These facilities are now available at the main Colombo Central Bus stand.

However, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed to extend the services across the country.

At a meeting convened yesterday under his leadership the minister instructed officials to look into the commuters’ needs and ensure that they are not exposed to the risk of contracting COVID-19.

The Minister urged passengers travelling in large numbers on public transport to ensure that they wash their hands, refrain from touching their faces and maintain hygiene against the virus.
