Presidential Commission probing Easter Sunday attacks:

Term of office further extended

The term of office of the Presidential Commission investigating the Easter Sunday bomb attacks has been further extended by six months by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The term of office of the Commission was due to expire on March 22.

The Commission began hearing of evidence on October 31, 2019. By March 12 the Commission had recorded evidence from 89 witnesses during 54 sittings.

Appeal Court Judge Janak de Silva in the President of the Commission. Its other members are Appeal Court Judge Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne, former Appeal Court Judge Nihal Sunil Rajapaksa. former High Court Judge Atapattu Liyanage Bandula Kumara Atapattu and former Ministry Secretary W.M.M.Adhikari. The Commission has so far submitted two interim reports to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on two occasions.
