Sri Lanka Ports Authority celebrates International Women’s Day

Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) held a special function to mark the International women’s Day 2020. The programme organized with the pioneer initiative of the ‘Sewa Wanitha’ Unit of SLPA was held at the Lalith Athulathmudali Auditorium of the institution’s Mahapola Ports and Maritime Academy.

The event was held with the patronage of the Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Ports and Shipping H.M.L.S. Herath, Chairman of SLPA - General Daya Ratnayake, and with the participation of staff members and employees of SLPA.

The event included several highlights to add to its importance including a tree planting programme, a special motivation programme conducted by the AIA Insurance, ‘An Excellent Woman’ programme by the Police Media Division and a stage drama titled ‘Wilangu’ (shackles).

The Chairman of SLPA General Daya Ratnayake said that the contribution by women for the progress and productivity of SLPA was immense. Expressing views, Chairperson of the SLPA ‘Sewa Wanitha’ Unit – Damayanthi Ratnayake stated that the strength she could offer and extend as a wife of a high-ranking Military officer for her husband’s victorious achievements were exemplary to all other courageous women.
