Kiriella seeks Ranil’s support for Samagi Bala Sandanaya

Former Minister Lakshman Kiriella yesterday urged Ranil Wickremesinghe to extend his support to the ‘Samagi Bala Sandanaya’ (SBS).

He was speaking at a media conference held at his home.

“According to the Elections Law of the country, party symbol cannot be changed. The Samagi Bala Sandanaya is not a political alliance that was arbitrarily formed and the United National Party (UNP) Working Committee has approved it.” he said.

“According to a decision made by the UNP Working Committee, a new party was formed and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has been appointed as the leader of that party,” he further added.

Members of local government bodies cannot be frightened by sending letters and 99 per cent of them are with the Samagi Bala Sandanaya. Nobody can remove them.

“Our political aims are more powerful than the party. We had discussions with UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam for about three months before forming the new party,” he added.
