Opposition trying to gain political mileage from COVID-19 - Dr. Bandula

The Opposition is trying its best to gain political mileage from the COVID-19 crisis, Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardana said yesterday.

“President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Armed Forces know how to manage COVID-19 successfully because they have already successfully managed more serious issues such as the 30 year terrorist war. They defeated the barbaric LTTE. They do not need advice from defeated politicians such as the former Opposition Leader,” Dr. Gunawardena said.

Addressing a press conference at the Government Information Department Auditorium in Colombo yesterday, he said that when Sri Lanka was affected by a Malaria epidemic several decades ago, the then Opposition did not act in this manner.

They all assisted the Government to mitigate the crisis. The late Dr. N.M. Perera was called ‘Parippu Mahaththaya’ by the people because of the responsible manner in which he acted at that time, he said.
