The country has come to a crucial juncture and should be steered by a group of politicians who could make constructive decisions without delay, former Minister Rohana Dissanayake said.

He added that economy has declined due to the mismanagement of the previous Good Governance government. After the eradication of terrorism, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government developed the country to be the fastest growing economy in the region. However, the Good Governance government reversed everything to make the country the slowest growing economy in the region.

Dissanayake made these observations during a press conference to declare that Matale Yatawatte Pradeshiya Sabha former Chairman and present Opposition Leader Somasiri Dayananda had joined the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

As the Matale District SLPP organiser, Dissanayake said that the United National Party (UNP) is not in a position to come to a decision on matters pertaining to the country’s economy. They are not even in a position to decide as to who should be their leader and they took more than one-and-a-half months to decide under which symbol they would contest the forthcoming General Election. "As such, the UNP is not in a position to decide by what means they would resolve the issues of the people."

"Hence, people should decide to strengthen the hands of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa by guaranteeing a two-thirds majority in Parliament," Dissanayake said.
