COVID-19:29 under observation

According to the latest statistics issued by the Epidemiology Unit yesterday a total of 29 individuals are currently under observation for COVID-19. Two Sri Lankans living in Sri Lanka have been found positive for the virus and are now being treated at the NIID. No other infections have been reported so far. There are eight suspected individuals at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), three at the Kandy National Hospital, three at Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, two at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, two at Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, one at Ragama Teaching Hospital and one at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL).  According to Health Ministry sources, in the current Sri Lankan context, there is no scientific justification for the public, including children, to wear a face mask. Health experts say that it is good if sick people (sick with flu, influenza etc.) and the people with significantly low immunity due to special health conditions such as recent major surgeries, undergoing chemotherapy, etc can wear face masks while visiting public places.

If a person suffers from symptoms such as fever, cough, cold, sore throat or difficulty in breathing, he/she should avoid visiting public places and crowded places. He/she should consult a doctor and inform the doctor about any foreign tours during the past 14 days.
