The reserve behind the Dombagoda Army Camp, Horana caught fire on Wednesday (11). It is suspected that someone had set fire to an abandoned field nearby.

Army troops tried to extinguish the fire with the help of the villagers and the Anguruwatota Police, but failed. They then called for the Municipal Council Fire Brigade in Horana. Nearly 20 firefighters with two trucks were able to control the fire after more than two hours. If the fire had not been controlled, a large part of the reserve would have been damaged and the fire would have spread to the Army camp, police said. Anguruwatota Police are conducting further investigations.
