Main suspect detained for questioning

After holding a lengthy inquiry into the request made by the Maligakanda Special Crime Investigations Bureau OIC to detain the three suspects involved in the Bandaragama heroin case, Panadura Additional District Judge and Additional Magistrate Chaminda Kalansuriya returning his order yesterday allowed permission for the main suspect Madurapperumage Kanchana Priyadharshani to be kept in police detention for two weeks for questioning.

The other two suspects Upeksha Jayamini and Madurapperumage Dhananjaya Dharmakumara were remanded till March 26.

The main suspect Kanchana Priyadharshani was taken to Colombo under tight security provided by the police team of the Maligakanda Special Crimes Investigations Bureau.

The police had arrested the three suspects and seized 192 kilogrammes of heroin and 10 foreign pistols from their custody during a raid conducted on a house in Gelanigama, Bandaragama, on January 31.
