The fourth Annual PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Sri Lanka) is to be held on July 17 at the Shangri-La in Colombo, with public nominations opened until May 1.

Sri Lanka is one of the key markets in the Asia Awards series, awarding for the best designs, best developers and also best projects in the nation, Managing Director, PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards, Jules Kay said.

“We being a regional platform, recognizes winners from all Asian countries and permit them to compete for the grand finale, to provide them an international recognition,” he said.

Having undergone a minor downfall due to the Easter Sunday attack last year, a massive success is expected in 2020. “Sri Lanka has gradually begun focusing on their ecosystem with a national level agenda, policy framework and multi stakeholder engagement,” Director and CEO, Paramount Realty, Nirmal de Silva said.

De Silva returning as Chairperson of the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Sri Lanka), says that he is confident in the region’s real estate prospects of 2020.

He also said that with the increasing rise of the aging population in the country, opportunities are available to develop the retirement living space within the country. More developer participation is expected in developing this particular segment.

With the removal of the Value Added Tax (VAT) with effect from December 31, the Nation Building Tax and Economic Service Charge (ESC) tax from January 1 and the reduction on Income Tax, the real estate sector has got many oppertunities for the development of the real estate sector of the country. “Thus, we are expecting much competition as well as new entries this year,” said Official Supervisor BDO Sri Lanka and Maldives Chief Operating Officer, Senior Partner, Head of Assurance, Risk Management, Quality Assurance Review (QAR) and Accounting Outsourcing Services (FAO), Sasanka Rathnaweera.

President, Institute of Town Planners Sri Lanka, Jagath Munasinghe said that this is an award scheme that recognizes back stage players in the real estate industry. Being winners of the Sri Lanka Real Estate Personality of the Year in 2019, he expects the future is going to be much better that what is experienced today.
