Plaudits for students’ innovative streak

INNOTECH 2020, the National Technology and Innovation Exhibition was held successfully for the second consecutive day in Pitipana, Homagama, yesterday. The exhibition opened by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on March 11, comprises scientific and innovative displays by schoolchildren, state and non-state university students, the Tri-Forces and national research centres.

Schoolchildren, university students and science enthusiasts gathered in large numbers amidst the heat. Innovative displays by schoolchildren from all over the island attracted the crowds. Many award-winning innovations were displayed. Of them, some were patented.

The Tri-Forces had an amazing and exciting collection of displays which attracted large numbers of schoolchildren. Various research centres such as the Arthur C Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies (ACCIMT) and the National Engineering Research and Development Centre (NERD) also showcased various research displays that are ready for commercialisation as well as those which are still at an experimental stage.

The exhibition will continue till March 14 at the premises of the Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology, NSBM Green University, Mahinda Rajapaksa National School and the Department of Measurement Units and Standard Services. Organized under the patronage of Information and Communication Technology, Higher Education, Technology and Innovations Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardane, and Education, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Dullas Alahapperuma and the chairmanship of the former State Minister of Technology and Innovations Thilanga Sumathipala, INNOTECH 2020 will open doors to universities, institutes and schools to promote Science literacy at all levels of society.
