The UNP membership of any member who joins another party lapses automatically and they will also lose their electoral organizer posts and any other posts affiliated with the UNP, former UNP MP Vajira Abeywardena said yesterday. Addressing a press briefing at Sirikotha, the UNP party headquarters, he said that if any member gives nomination through another party, the UNP party membership will be terminated automatically.
Then the UNP will have to move on a new path to face the General election. “The UNP will proceed on a new path by appointing new members to all the vacant posts.We have already started appointing new members to organizer posts,” he added.
Moreover he added that the UNP working committee approved only to form a coalition but not a separate party whereas the ‘Samagi Jana Balawegaya’ is disclosing fallacious information. “UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam will divulge the accurate reports of the working committee meetings. It only approved to form a coalition and not a separate party. UNP supporters must know the truth regarding the drama played by the ‘Samagi Jana Balawegaya’ he said.
