Govt calls on public to help combat Covid-19 here

The government has sought people’s assistance towards measures taken to combat the Covid-19 virus, since there is a threat of the virus spreading in Sri Lanka.

The President’s Media Division in a communique said this virus has already spread into countries the world over and these countries had taken several measures to control it.

The first Covid-19 virus infected person in Sri Lanka has been detected on March 10 afternoon according to Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe.This 52 year old patient has worked as a tourist guide.The patient has been sent to the IDH Hospital in Angoda for quarantine and is under treatment, Dr.Jasinghe said. Information is also being gathered about the places visited by the tour group and the persons they had associated with.The communique said the government has launched a wide scale programme under a systematic plan to prevent the spread of the virus within the country from March 10. Quarantine measures were started on people arriving in the country from South Korea, Italy and Iran.The government now requests the full support of persons returning from abroad and the public towards the programme launched to combat the virus.
