SLNSS working for womens rights- Devendra

Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya (SLNSS) General Secretary Leslie Devendra said yesterday that the SLNSS is engaged in a major struggle to rectify the leave anomalies of working women.

“We launched another struggle in recent times to resolve the problems associated with the maternity leave issue of working women. After successfully solving that issue, we are now engaged in rectifying the leave anomalies of working women in various fields,” he added.

He was addressing the gathering at a ceremony organized by the Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya to celebrate International Womens’ Day at it headquarters in Rajagiriya yesterday.

Devendra said that working women are still faced with many challenges in their workplaces. Most of the women work with very limited facilities.

Their lives are so pathetic. Many women from poor backgrounds who work in Colombo stay in places with poor facilities. They even do not have proper sanitary facilities. And that is pitiful,” he added.

“Many women face sexual harassment at the hands of their employers and also in public transport. We must raise our voices in this regard as well,” he added.
