Former MP Thusitha Wijemanne summoned to give evidence

Chairman of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into alleged political victimisation of public officials, former Supreme Court Justice Upali Abeyratne ordered former Ratnapura district Parliamentarian Thusitha Wijemanne to appear before the Commission to give evidence regarding the alleged interdiction of a police officer by misusing political power.

The Commission is recording evidence to conduct a broad investigation into the interdiction of former senior DIG Lalith Anuruddha Jayasinghe on charges of prevailing upon the then OIC Kahawatte Police Station Lalith Pushpakumara to desist from arresting Premalal Jayasekara, a suspect in a shooting incident in the Kahawatta Police division.

Testifying before the Commission, Jayasinghe said he never spoke to the Kahawatta Police OIC on the telephone on the matter.

Neither did he exert any influence on the investigation into the shooting incident nor has the Kahawatta Police OIC made a log entry or recorded evidence to the effect that he exerted influence.
