Protection from COVID-19; Public instructions

Health Promotion Bureau Director Dr. Palitha Karunapema issued a set of instructions to the public to protect themselves from COVID-19 and all the other respiratory infections.   

According to the instructions issued by Dr. Karunapema, people should wash their hands often and avoid touching the face, nose, mouth and eyes. The mouth should be covered with disposable tissue or the inner side of the elbow when coughing and sneezing. If a person suffer from symptoms such as fever, cough, cold, sore throat or difficulty in breathing, he/she should avoid visiting crowded places. Those who patronise public places are requested to wash their hands with soap or with an alcohol based hand sanitizer.   

He/she should consult a doctor and inform the doctor about any foreign tours made during the past 14 days.   

“Used tissues should be disposed of in a safe manner while used handkerchiefs must be washed carefully with germ killer soap/liquid etc before re-using. Surface sanitizing may help prevent some infections at home, school and office,”Health experts added.
