Political party reps told to iron out differences - Elections Commission

Several political party representatives called for a meeting with Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya at the Election Secretariat yesterday were told sternly to iron out differences, as the Commission will be compelled to bar parties with irreconcilable differences. Accordingly, representatives of Ahila Ilangai Tamil Congress (AITC), Eelavar Democratic Front, Eksath Lanka Podujana Pakshaya, Eksath Lanka Maha Sabha, Liberal Party and Sri Lanka Progressive Front were called in for discussions. Officials told the Daily News that these were ‘disputed’ political parties, some of which had rifts within the party, issues surrounding its leadership and in some instances, the parties had at least two secretaries.

“They were invited to come for a formal discussion to iron out these differences. If they continue to have such differences, it will make it difficult for the commission to carry out election work.”
