COVID-19: 18 still under observation

According to the latest statistics issued by the Epidemiology Unit yesterday (Tuesday), 18 people are currently under observation for COVID-19. No Sri Lankan living here has been tested positive for the virus so far.

There are four people warded at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), four at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, three at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital,five at the Negombo DGH, one at the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital and one at the Gampaha DGH. Health Ministry sources said there is no scientific necessity for the public to wear face masks “But people with flu, influenza etc and people with significantly low immunity due to special health conditions and specific diseases have been requested to wear face masks in public places.

According to the situation report issued by the WHO on Monday,3,809 people have died due to COVID-19 with 109,577 cases reported from 104 countries,” Health sources added.
