‘Benefit of drop in fuel price will be passed on to people’

The Government will offer the financial benefit of the reduction in fossil fuel price to the public in line with the global fuel price decrease, former Export Agriculture State Minister Janaka Wakkumbura said. He was addressing the media yesterday at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) party office.

Wakkumbura added that the SLPP is looking forward to a two-thirds majority at the forthcoming General Election to implement the ‘Vision for Prosperity’ policy of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

He said that even though the Opposition levels allegations that the Government does not give the benefit of the fuel price decrease to the public, the Government will soon take measures to give relief to the public in line with the reduced fuel price in the world market. He said the Government could give certain benefits to the public as the fuel price formula was removed soon after it came into power. Wakkumbura said that the former government could carry out many projects during the first 100 days since the Treasury was not empty at that time. Even though the Opposition Leader says that the Opposition supports the Government, the Opposition does not support the Government when it presents a supplementary estimate in Parliament.

Speaking on the financial misconduct during the former government, Wakkumbura said that state funds were misused for election campaigns by several ministers of that regime.
