‘Party leaders responsible for MPs’ faults’

Political party leaders should take the responsibility for malpractices, and corruption and fraudulent activities carried out by Parliamentarians in the future, March 12 Movement Convener Rohana Hettiarachchi said.

He made this observation addressing a media conference held yesterday (10) at the Centre for Society and Religion (CSR), Maradana.

“According to Sri Lanka’s Electoral System, voters do not have a choice unless the political parties nominate capable and qualified people to contest at the upcoming Parliamentary Election,” he said.

The March 12 Movement established in March 2015, introduced nomination criteria to all political parties and political party leaders who expected to create a clean political culture agreed to these criteria. The Movement has already taken measures to revisit its criteria, focusing on the upcoming Parliamentary General Election in order to build a strong voice in influencing political party leaders to nominate eligible candidates for the election. The revised criteria of the March 12 Movement are scheduled to be launched tomorrow (12) at BMICH with the participation of political party leaders and secretaries.
