Muralitharan’s brother impressed by President’s vision for Sri Lanka

Prabhakaran Muralitharan, the brother of world-renowned cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan, yesterday said he will contest the forthcoming General Elections from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) for the Nuwara Eliya district.

Muralitharan explaining his decision to enter politics said he was impressed by the programme President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had to develop the country and had decided to join the SLPP and support it.

Muralitharan was answering questions from journalists after participating in a Women’s Day programme at an estate in Maskeliya on Saturday.

On the decision to enter Parliament from the Nuwara Eliya district, Muralitharan said like Moneragala, in Nuwara Eliya district too people face a lot of difficulties due to lack of facilities and opportunities for employment.

While especially mentioning the difficulties faced by the plantation workers, Muralitharan said he would like to play a role in developing the district and improving the living conditions of the people.

Muralitharan said if elected he would introduce self-employment schemes to improve the income level of plantation workers and enhance facilities to raise their standard of living.
