WHO praises Italy’s ‘genuine sacrifices’ to slow COVID-19

The World Health Organization on Sunday saluted Italy’s “genuine sacrifices” after the government put a quarter of the population under lockdown to try to halt the spread of the COVID-19.

Over 15 million people in northern Italy woke on Sunday to find themselves cut off from the rest of the country, after the government imposed strict measures to slow the epidemic.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte decided to limit movement in and out of the north, including Venice and the financial capital Milan, for nearly a month. - AFP
