Plans are afoot to re-launch the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ Fund, Defence Ministry Secretary Major General (Rtd) Kamal Gunaratne said.

Speaking at the Kalutara District War Heroes Forum held at the Dodangoda Divisional Secretariat Auditorium, he pointed out that the Ministry would be able to provide more services to the war heroes if the fund was revived.

He added that housing projects would be carried out using the interest of the fund.

Gunaratne said that his Ministry was currently making plans to re-launch in the fund in a more systematic manner with a publicity campaign. He added that there are many parties and individuals who are willing to assist this project.

The Api Wenuwen Api Fund was a collaboration between the Defence Ministry and the Central Bank to build 50,000 houses for the serving Tri-Service personnel. It was started in 2009 as a tribute to the war heroes.
