The Sri Lanka Air Force held a flag blessing ceremony on Friday at the Anuradhapura sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, in celebration of its 69th anniversary.

Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sumangala Dias presided over the event which was organised under his instructions.

A colorful perahera accompanied by Buddhist monks proceeded to the Udamaluwa (upper layer) for religious performances, as flag-bearers lined up at the Welimaluwa (lower-layer).

Thereafter, all flags of the Air Force were carried to the upper layer for the symbolic invocation of blessings. This symbolised the blessing of all personnel of the Sri Lanka Air Force serving around the island in various capacities.

The event was organised by SLAF Anuradhapura Base and was attended by the SLAF Chief of Staff, Member of the Air Force Board of Management, senior officers, other rankers and civilian staff representing the entire Air Force.
