Gravel Season 2020 started off with back to back podium finishes for Evon Gurusinghe who won the Group M modified 250cc and the Group R-MX 250cc events. He was clearly the most outstanding rider of the day in the absence of many top riders including the defending 2019 Thunder Valley champ Jacques Gunawardane who is currently overseas representing Sri Lanka.

Besides Evon Gurusinghe, Yuhan Rajith Silva secured first place in both races in the Supermotard category whilst, Jaden Gunawardena raised many eyebrows with an entry in to the Supermotard event. Two second places in his very first event surely would motivate him to enter gravel meets in future.

Kavindu Kevitiyaga, Shanuka Jayana, Rumisha Buultjens, Bhanuka Ratnayeka and a few other top riders kept the crowd on their toes with a fantastic performance and close competition.

Junior riders Shakeeb Ahamed, Dineth Mihiranga, Esala Madanayeka, Gagana Fernando and Kesara Godage the defending 2019 Junior Champion also put on a fantastic show in their respective junior events.

Thunder Valley is a new race venue at Kaluaggala and the inaugural event was kicked off last year. The different types of terrain where the ground conditions are different in most sections presented a challenge for both bikes and 4x4’s over the weekend.

The event was organized by Sean Hameed from the Four Wheel Drive Club of Sri Lanka and Two Wheels Motor Racing Club in conjunction with RAC Asia.

The event running for the second consecutive year saw an unprecedented 21 entries in the 4x4 touring class, and 64 bike entries that ran 8 events including events for junior riders under 9, 12 & 15 to the competitive MX 250 and Supermotard open events.
