The motion to file a bail application for 22 university students who were arrested for violating a court order by staging a protest opposite the University Grants Commission (UGC), has been rejected by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday.
Twenty-two university students including two monks were arrested for staging a protest opposite the University Grants Commission (UGC) in violation of a court order obtained by the Police over acts of obstruction of the public.
The Convenor of the Inter University Students Federation Ven. Rathkarawwe Jinarathana Thera and another monk are among those arrested. Counsel appearing on behalf of the students told court that some students are scheduled to sit for an exam on March 10 and pleaded to grant his clients bail.
