National Advisory Committee on migrant labour meets

The National Advisory Committee on migrant labour met at the Narahenpita Foreign Employment Unit auditorium presided by Foreign Relations, Skills Development and Labour Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardene on March 4.

A media statement by the Ministry said the Sri Lanka National Policy on labour migration which gained cabinet approval in 2008 is still in operation. Its main targets are to build a long term vision for the role of labour migration in the economy, increase dividends of labour migration on economic, and social migrant labour and their families and safeguard all human rights of the migrant labour.

The Minister is empowered to summon this committee once every year. The preparation of national action plan to update the national labour migration policy and migration for employment began in 2018 and the National Policy and Action Plan 2020-2024 was drafted accordingly.
