Air rifle seized in Wanathawilluwa

An air rifle suspected to have been used by the Easter Sunday attackers for weapons training in the Wanathawilluwa area was seized by officers of the Kegalle division Crime Investigation Unit from a house in Muruthawala around 7.00 pm on March 4. The police officers also arrested an inmate of the house on suspicion.

The terrorists are said to have purchased three air rifles from Ranwala in Kegalle in 2018 for weapons training. One of these rifles were seized in Wanathawilluwa and another rifle was seized from the Mawanella house of Saddiq, a suspect in the vandalising of Buddla statues. The air rifle seized on March 4 is believed to be the other weapon which had gone missing.
